Naro-Moru Route: mount Kenya Climbing

Naro-Moru route is the most famous and the fastest route through which to climb Mount Kenya from its southern end. This route can be reached from any side of Kenya but Most mount Kenya climbing safaris depart from nairobi. From the famous Teleki valley, Naro-Moru is actually the shortest and cheapest route to reach mount Kenya peaks. It is rated the most populous mount Kenya route because of its ease and less effort needed to manage it. It provides an obvious trail up Mount Kenya and hence its popularity.

Naro-Moru path meanders along the right hand region of theTeleki valley, maintaining its hight and then slowly descends to pass the Naro-Moru stream to Mackinder's camp at 4,200M above the sea level. From mount Kenya Met station, to Mackinder's accommodation point, it takes approximately 5hours of hiking.  A climb to Austrian hut takes 4 hours depending on one's speed and within 45 minutes, point Lenana is visible at 4,985 metres.

The most tedious part of Naro-Moru route is at the steep marshy section of Mount Kenya known as the vertical blog, one hour from the Met section. Once you are here, it takes three to four hours, to reach the crest of mount Kenya, a ridge overlooking Teleki valley at 4,000M.
