Mount Elgon is an extinct Volcano that erupted 24 million years ago. At an altitude of 4295meters above the sea level, the hike to this mountain is a good opportunity to see the flora and fauna on top and its environs, waterfalls, caves, peaks and gorges and hot springs. Hiking takes place the whole year but better during dry months of June to August and December to March. No technical experience is needed but it is advisable to visit in good health.

Mountain gear
Thick sleeping bag, Warm clothes,gloves, wind-proof hat, hiking shoes, Flash light, Water bottle and rain-proof gear. Trekking takes place daily unlike Mountain Rwenzori which starts on specific days of the week.

4 Days Mount Elgon Trekking

Day 1: Nairobi- Kampala

Pick up from your hotel in Nairobi at 7.30 am depart for Kampala town via Busia border post for immigration formalities and arrive late in the afternoon for dinner and overnigh with safari briefing by one of our staff in Kampala.

Day  2: Kampala-Sippi

Pack up to depart from Kampala in the morning to Sippi via the Iganga - Tirinyi road. On arrival you will check and check in at the Rest Camp. You will have lunch and there after relax as you wait to take a walk around the Falls areas and explore the caves. Dinner and Overnight at Sippi Falls Rest Camp.

Day 3: Forest Excursion

You will have breakfast in the morning before you proceed to the Forest Exploration Center at Kapkwai. With packed lunch, you have the choice of trekking trials into Mt. Elgon. You may decide to take the 1km, 3km or 7km trial.  A lush mosaic of Afro-montane forest, grassland and moorland habitats makes this park a highly rewarding destination for hikers and other natural history enthusiasts. After that, you return to the Rest Camp for Dinner and Overnight.

Day 4: Elgon- Kampala

After breakfast, you take a drive to Kapchwora town, and then to the Visitor Center at Kapkwata, and the return to the camp for lunch. After lunch, you will be transported back to Kampala arriving in the evening.
