Income Generating Activities (IGAs)
The girlchild empowerment project Girls and women have been seen as weaker sexes, voiceless and have little to contribute I community development process. School dropout in girls in the rural areas register high percentages as early marriages become eminent. AIM empowers girl children through establishing social-economically oriented initiatives for school dropout girls and young, married women to motivate their contribution in Gross domestic production thus reduce the cost of living with families.
(i)Tailoring and dress making Girls and young women are trained voluntarily on tailoring and dressmaking. At the end of every training them they sit on exam with the Kenyan national examination Council (KNEC) through the Kenya industrial training directorate (KITD), to upgrade their performance and have a recognized document to seek jobs anywhere, though, some are semi-illiterate, AIM takes them trough remedial adult classes of reading, writing and language practice. They have always been seen as strong, empowered and laterally neglected. Many times, girls and women have empowerment consideration in funding, education and general capacity building while boys slumber in hard work, misuse and abuse. We think that a proper society grows positively when both sexes are equally considered. We therefore establish boychild empowerment initiatives. AIM later establishes workshops for the qualified team to make their own designs which they are helped to find their market.
(ii) Sanitary towel: we usually provide girls with sanitary pads to improve hygiene. We work on ways to develop reusable pads instead of old dirty clothes and tree leaves which they use due to poverty reasons...
Boychild project (i) Carpentry, woodwork, masonry They learn under voluntary program and sit on exam with the Kenya national examination council (KNEC) through the Kenya industrial training directorate (KITD). Later they are helped to establish their own workshop under supervision of AIM. Though, it’s their duty to sustain the program.
