Amboseli review

Amboseli are the plains below Mt. Kilimanjaro. The waters from melted snow drain down the mountain under lava flows and surface in Amboseli, creating a green belt of swampland amidst dusty plains. Here, hippo, elephant and bird life can be seen against the backdrop of the magnificent snow-capped mountain.

Amboseli National park, which lies below Africa highest point Mount Kilimanjaro,is one of the most tourist preferred Kenya adventure destination. Despite its afternoon strong winds and hostile sun, Amboseli is one of the Kenya best tourist attraction with its surrounding covered with African savannah and acacia scrub. A large part of Amboseli consists of the alluvial dried up bed of the seasonal lake Amboseli.

Amboseli is one of the parks in Kenya with varying climate changes that makes it difficult to predict when it will rain. Towards the center of this Kenya unique park are a series of swamps fed by the underground rivers running off the mount Kilimanjaro.

The endemic dust experienced in this Kenya park is volcanic ash which spewed from Kilimanjaro. During the dry seasons, a curious feature is the shimmering dry larid Kenya ake bed where false mirages of populated horizons, punctuated by real herds of zebras and wildebeests hover in front of visitors. The principal attraction in Amboseli is its vast herds of elephants within the park. The bull elephants here have some of the largest tusks in Kenya. Plentiful game includes: zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, impala and leopard. Caracal and serval cat can be seen. Birdwatchers can see pelicans, bee-eaters, kingfishers, African fish eagles, martial eagles and pygmy falcons.

Amboseli is an important rangeland in Maasai culture in Kenya. The ranch areas outside the park offer a wealth of game-viewing and walking safaris in Kenya. The Kenya Wildlife Community Service works closely with the local elders to develop eco-tourism attractions which benefit the endigenous Kenya communities and protect this fragile eco-system.
One of the most popular parks in Kenya, Amboseli offers a wide range of accommodation within and just outside the park
